Hunger is scary! 👻 Visit a branch and donate food this October
Donate at our food drive: Tuesday, Oct. 16 through Wednesday, Oct. 31.
Ghosts, goblins, aliens and zombies all have a record of scaring even the bravest Halloween fans. But, there is something even scarier than those four supernatural forces combined: Hunger.
This October, Arsenal is holding a food drive to benefit Brenden’s Friday Backpacks. The next time you visit your branch, please consider donating food items that can be stuffed in a backpack and easily prepared or readily eaten:
- Kid-friendly canned soups or pastas
- Pudding or fruit cups
- Plastic jars of peanut butter
- Individual snacks
- Granola bars
- Single-serve cereal packs
- Tuna and chicken kits
More about Brenden’s Friday Backpacks
Hunger can affect anyone, and hundreds of children suffer every day. While many school food programs provide free breakfast and lunch, some kids don’t have access to food when they get home, making weekends and long breaks difficult.
Brenden’s Friday Backpacks sends these kids home with a bag of single-serve, non perishable, kid-friendly food items that can easily be prepared and last until school starts back up the next week.
The program began in 2011 with four children in a single school. Now, the program feeds over 1,200 children in 54 schools throughout Jefferson County every week. The program is run by volunteers and takes anonymous referrals directly from local schools.
