Arsenal continues to support financial education in local high schools
“Providing financial education is part of our mission, and it’s great to see our efforts are making a difference in the lives of students, families and the local community,” said Ken Moser, vice president of marketing at Arsenal.
Providing financial education to the communities we serve
During the 2018-19 academic year, 882 high school students from Fox, Seckman, Windsor and McCluer North completed 2,720 hours of learning through a digital-based financial education program we provided in partnership with EVERFI, a leading education technology company. This year, we added a fifth school – Webster Groves – to the mix.
EVERFI’s digital-based financial education program is based on learning modules. These modules enable students to practice and develop healthy financial habits through real-world scenarios and engaging educational interactions.
Assessment tests performed before and after the program showed last year’s students increased their financial knowledge by 65 percent! Our learners see the most gains in the areas of investing, financing higher education and insurance and taxes.
We’re building financial confidence in students
Confidence is one of the keys to financial well-being. Our learners had the biggest confidence gains in two areas:
- Applying for financial aid or loans to help pay for college (+133%)
- Checking a credit score and understanding what it means (+103%)
Other noteworthy gains included:
- Choosing the right type of account for their money (+97%)
- Knowing which payment to use for purchases (+61%)
- Deciding whether to rent or buy a home in the future (+59%)
The EVERFI program meets high standards
The courses align with state and national Jump$tart Coalition financial literacy standards. They’re also recognized by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as being a trusted resource for financial education.
EVERFI’s learning platform incorporates simulations, avatars, gaming and adaptive-pathing to bring complex financial concepts to life. A modern, illustrative design and new interactive digital activities are being incorporated into the program this year.
More about our commitment to financial education
We supplemented our financial sponsorship of EVERFI’s program with 20 classroom presentations that our certified educator in personal finance gave at the four high schools mentioned above.
Since we started supporting this program with one high school in the spring semester of the 2015-16 academic year and expanded our reach thereafter, a total of 2,413 students from six different schools have completed 8,242 hours of learning.
