Help us collect single-serve food items for families in need this fall
Hunger is scary, but we can help support families in need.
Imagine spending the day at work without eating anything the entire day. There’s a good chance that you’d spend most of your day thinking about food instead of actually getting your job done.
Now imagine a child going to school without the proper nourishment. There’s no way that they could concentrate, learn and grow without the proper fuel.
Donate food at your closest Arsenal branch from Monday, Sept. 16, through Saturday, Oct. 12.
This fall, we will be collecting easy-to-prepare, single-serve foods for families in need. Many of the donations will go to Brenden’s Friday Backpacks, a local organization that sends kids home with a backpack full of food during the weekend when they don’t have access to a school cafeteria. Other donations will go to local organizations around our branches.
Quick statistics about hunger in America
The USDA defines “food insecurity” as the lack of access, at times, to enough food for all household members. In 2017, an estimated 15 million households were food insecure. It’s estimated that one in six American children may not know where their next meal is coming from.
According to Feeding America, children who face hunger are more likely to:
- Repeat a grade in elementary school
- Experience developmental impairments in areas like language and motor skills
- Have more social and behavioral problems
There is no excuse for kids in this country to go hungry. Let’s help make sure that children do not have to face these problems.
