Community involvement spotlight: February 2021

While our employees are still not able to volunteer out in the community as much as in years past, we’re still able to give back in other ways. We had a busy start to the year helping the communities we serve.

Belleville Sack Lunch Program

We donated $4,000 to the Belleville Sack Lunch Program run by Zion Lutheran Church. This program delivers meals to children through the churches that would not eat due to food insecurity. With our donation we will be able to increase the number of children that will be fed this year. Each child receives a backpack with enough food to last them the weekend. Approximately 160 children will be fed with our donation.

We also awarded a $2,500 grant to this organization last month through our Arsenal Community Impact Fund.

Pet Food Drive

Our Arnold and Webster Groves branches will be collecting pet food in the lobbies from now until Feb. 27. Please only donate pet food at this time (dry or canned). Donations will go to support the Jefferson County Pet Food Pantry and other local organizations.

Christmas light recycling

For the fourth year in a row, we partnered with Midwest Recycling Center to recycle old, broken and unwanted Christmas lights. This season (Dec. 2020, through Jan. 4, 2021), you helped us save a total of 1,388 pounds of Christmas lights from ending up in landfills. The Arnold branch collected 849 pounds, the Florissant branch collected 213 pounds and the Webster Groves branch collected 326 pounds.

We plan on holding more recycling events later this year. In the spring and fall, we’ll partner with American Document Destruction for paper shredding events. In the summer, we’ll again partner with MRC for electronics recycling events. Here’s a list of events planned for 2021. All events run from 8:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m.

January blood drive

A big thanks goes out to all members and staff who helped donate blood at the January drive at our Arnold branch. We had 22 registered donors and collected 18 units of blood! Four of those donors gave blood for the first time.

St. Luke’s mobile mammography unit will be at our Florissant and Arnold branches early this year.
